Elon’s Tesla Roadster: Space Junk or Scientific Opportunity?

So, astronomers mistook Musk’s Tesla for a near-Earth asteroid. A funny blunder, right? But this raises some serious questions. How many other pieces of space debris are masquerading as celestial bodies? And with increasing space traffic, is this becoming a significant problem for research and planetary defense? Could we be wasting resources investigating space junk disguised as asteroids?

More importantly, what does the Tesla’s current state tell us about long-term exposure to the harsh environment of space? It's been years since launch – is it a mangled mess? Could examining its remains provide valuable data for material science and spacecraft design? Should we consider a mission to retrieve it? Is it even feasible?

This raises another question: who is responsible for tracking objects like the Tesla once they leave Earth’s orbit? Should there be international regulations? Or is it simply a case of “finders keepers” in the vastness of space?

Let’s discuss. What are your thoughts?
